The 5 Best Places to Buy Art Supplies Online

Restocking up on art supplies can add up. You might find yourself getting overwhelmed trying to find the best place to buy art supplies. I usually spend more money when I try to buy my supplies in person because I don’t really give myself time to consider the sales, and I buy more than I actually need. To save time and money, I love to buy art supplies online. There are several places that I prefer to buy from depending on the sales offered, how fast they ship, and if the item that I need is in stock.

Jerry’s Artarama

Jerry’s Artarama is my favorite place to buy art supplies online. Their prices are usually the lowest, they have weekly sales that range from 10%-70% off selected items, and the website is a great resource for artists. They offer thousands of tutorial videos for beginner to expert artists and host art events and contests.

Shipping and Returns: The standard shipping takes about 5-7 business days, although I’ve gotten my items as soon as 3 business days. They have a 30 day return policy at no cost for damaged items or wrong orders.

Discounts: They have weekly sales for selected items every week that are up t0 70% off. If you sign up to their newsletter, you get 15% off your first order and will continue to receive emails with discounts and their sales. If your order is over $49, you automatically get free shipping.

If I need an item fast but am still trying to save, I like to order from Amazon. You can find any item imaginable by searching it, and you also get the benefit of reading reviews on that specific product or the seller. I like to buy from Amazon if it’s also an item that is more expensive or I have never used for the reviews and the fast shipping.

Shipping and Returns: If you are a prime member, you get free 2-day shipping on any prime items ordered. Amazon also has a free return policy. Just return your item with your slip and you will get a refund or a replacement (usually with 2 day shipping as well) as soon as they receive the returned item.

Discounts: While finding discounts on Amazon is a little trickier, it’s still not impossible. Not only do theyoffer lower prices compared to most online art stores, certain sellers also offer their own coupons. All you have to do is subscribe to their page and apply any promotions or coupons that they are offering.

Dick Blick’s

Dick Blick’s is one of the largest online stores for art supplies. They also offer free art tutorials and resources for artists of all mediums and expertise. I like their video tutorials because they cater to more modern trends. Although they are a bit on the pricier type, they also offer good sales and quality products.

Shipping and Returns: If your order is over $49, you will get free ground shipping (which takes about 5-7 business days). Any returns on damaged items or wrong order take 2 weeks to process for a refund or replacement, which compared to other online stores, is a little longer.

Discounts: If you sign-up to their email list, they will send coupons, promotions, and sales on a weekly basis. Their discounts can range from 10% off to 70% off on selected items.

Cheap Joe’s

I buy from Cheap Joe’s during their sales and promotions. Most of their items are usually cheaper than most stores and their selection is one of the largest as well.

Shipping and Returns: Cheap Joe’s offers free shipping on orders over $149.99, and a $4.95 flat free rate on orders that are less than that. They also offer returns, although they offer  a $5.95 flat fee. You have a year (365 days) to return any items that you are not satisfied with.

Discounts: If you sign up for the newsletter, you will receive information about weekly sales, promotions, and coupons.

I like to use Ebay when I need to buy in bulk for cheaper. It’s a little more time consuming to use because you have to do a little bit more of searching and making sure the products are not overpriced. But, it’s a great tool to use if you are willing to put in more time to save more money.

Shipping and Returns: Shipping and returns depend on the seller. Most ground shipping is around $3-$5.

Discounts: Discounts are also dependent on individual sellers.

My wife loves to create art, mostly drawings and paintings. I already knew of some of these places. However, I have never heard of Cheap Joe’s before. I went ahead and saved this post to show my wife. I am sure she has never heard of some these places online to buy art supplies.

I’m not an artist but my daughter is. Just so happens she has a birthday coming up. I am now not lost with trying to figure out what to get her 🙂

There’s great gift packages in different art stores that have a little bit of everything depending on what medium she uses! Gift cards are always a good choice too. Hope that helps! 🙂

Honestly, I haven’t thought about searching on eBay before. Probably because they are more of a wholesaler kind of place and I am searching for something more unique.

My go-to place for art supplies is always Amazon, but there are times when I couldn’t find what I want. So thanks for pointing me to other retailers. It’s good to know that I have more than one option. Thanks!
